Connecting 5 home computers

Every time I install a Windows 10 Update on my 5 PC's, HomeGroup, WorkGroup, and Networks are affected. THEY ALL ARE CONNECTED TO THE SAME MODEM AND ROUTER! What software in the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system is not addressed that results in the links being broken.
I do research for a class and transfer files the 5 computers.
Is there a non-Microsoft application out there which will access the modem or router IP addresses and retain linkages to all my 5 computer files?

You might want to try using Advance Sharing instead of HomeGroup. Not only is HomeGroup less reliable, it is WAY slower. It takes a bit more work, but if you share between accounts using User Credentials you should find it more bulletproof and faster.
