Can't access windows update and security

Recent problem(might be after updates 12-24). Cannot access windows update.

 

[Trouble]

If you right click the Start Button and choose "Run" and in the run dialog box type
ms-settings:windowsupdate
hit enter or click OK.....
What happens?

Thanks. Tried, takes me to the update and security screen but still does not open. Times out. I can also go to settings, system. then about, and get to update screen. I cannot open defender from there, nor can I open updates.

Two things you could try.
Clean boot the system

Use the steps for 8 / 8.1 (same for 10)
See if that helps with the issue

AND OR

Create a new local user account as a member of the local administrators group (not a standard user)
Log off as you and log on as the new user
See if the new user account has the same problems.
