Cannot Change the names of my folders -

When I right click on and folder on the desktop (I want to change the names of several folders) the circle appears and just sits there spinning. The only way to stop it is to click on a vacant area on the desktop and then click on the start button the screen will then fade and in a couple of seconds I will be booted out of that screen and the desktop will reappear as if it is fully working.

I tried Troubleshooting and got nothing. I then tried to update the Graphics card but again I just got the circle spinning and a notice that it was looking for updates - after 2 hours I killed that session.

Can anyone help ?
