Blank screen after restart

Everytime I have to shut down my laptop for program updates it displays a blank screen. I have to close the laptop,reopen it then it will work. Seems like I spend a lot of effort finding work arounds to get where I want.

Sounds like there may be an issue with the power scheme you are using.
Examine your advanced power options regarding sleep, hibernate, hybrid sleep etc. and any power settings impacting your display.
Additionally, check the link that says "Choose what the power buttons do" then "Change settings that are currently unavailable" inspect anything there that might be pertinent and consider unchecking the box that says "Turn on fast startup (recommended)."
