Another Windows 10 bluescreen post

My Dell PC is about 18 months old. Bought with Windows 8.1 and subsequently upgraded to Windows 10 by Microsoft, so no Windows installation disc. The Windows 10 update was find, but it had been very buggy since a more recent upgrade (crashing, "low memory" messages, etc). I haven't installed any software or apps on it since the Windows 10 upgrade myself.

A couple of days ago, the computer crashed so I forced a re-start but only got the blue screen of death - same errors repeating over and again, not getting anywhere.

I have gotten into the boot menu and tried a refresh, but it was unsuccessful. I have tried backing up to an external hard drive but the process wouldn't complete.

From what I have seen online, I should be able to keep my files on a reset but when I go into the reset option, it doesn't seem to be offering me the chance to do so (what I am seeing on my screen seems different to what I see on the how to pages).

I did make recovery discs a few months ago, but when I try to use the recovery option, it is not offering me an option to use these discs.

I have a lot of personal files on the PC (photos of my kids, etc) that I don't want to lose, so I am nervous about just doing a reset or doing something that might wipe everything.

Any tips would be appreciated!!

That needs to be your priority then and you need to address that issue first before considering anything else.
Do you have the means / skillset to remove the drive from the problem PC and connect it to a second working computer to copy off your critical data.
There are any number of devices and cabling configuration to support the technique.

Thanks. I won't claim to have any particular skill set but will give that a try and see how I get on. Appreciate the guidance.
