For some reason when I try to move a 5.54Gig file to a newly formatted 16Gig, I get a "File too Large" dialog box saying that the file is to large for the destination file system.

I just used the default format setting when I right clicked on the USB drive in My Computer window and selected "Format"

Why am i getting this error and is there a solution?

You need to check on HOW you have formatted the Flash drive. Looks to me it is formatted as FAT or FAT32. To be able to get such a large file on it ,it is a MUST to format it as NTFS. FAT32 cannot handle file sizes larger than 4GB....

FAT32 Systems and 2GB File Size Limit
  • You are not allowed to back up 4GB or more of data to a FAT32 File System. You may either:
  • Split the data at 2GB from Where to Backup Options
  • Convert your Drive System from FAT32 to NTFS
You will need to format your drive with exFAT or NTFS, if you wish to store files larger than 4GB.
