How to Make Google Maps Load Faster?
1. Restart Your Computer and Browser
- Save any work you have open.
- Click on the Start Menu and choose Restart from the power options.
- Once the computer has restarted, open your preferred browser (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc.).
- Navigate to Google Maps (https://www.google.com/maps).
2. Update Your Computer and Browser
- Check for any system updates:
- For Windows: Click on Start, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click on Check for updates.
- For Mac: Click on the Apple menu, select System Preferences, then Software Update, and click on Update Now if updates are available.
- Update your browser:
- For Chrome: Click on the three dots in the top right corner, go to Help > About Google Chrome, and the browser will automatically check for updates and install them.
- For Firefox: Click on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner, go to Help > About Firefox, and it will check for updates.
- For Edge: Click on the three dots in the top right corner, go to Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge, and it will check for updates.
3. Install the Latest Version of DirectX on Windows
- Press the Windows icon + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type dxdiag and press Enter.
- Check if you’re running the DirectX 12 version (the latest) in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
- If you aren’t running the latest version, download it.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install DirectX.
4. Disable Hardware Acceleration in Your Browser
For Chrome:- Open Google Chrome.
- Type chrome://settings/ in the address bar and press Enter.
- Scroll down and click on Advanced.
- Under the System section, toggle off Use hardware acceleration when available.
- Restart Chrome.
5. Clear Browser Cache
For Chrome:- Open Google Chrome.
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and go to More tools > Clear browsing data.
- Select All time for the time range.
- Check the boxes for Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files.
- Click on Clear data.
- Open Mozilla Firefox.
- Click on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner and go to Options.
- Go to Privacy & Security and scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data section.
- Click on Clear Data, check Cookies and Site Data and Cached Web Content, and then click on Clear.
6. Use Google Maps in Incognito/Private Mode
For Chrome:- Open Google Chrome.
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select New Incognito Window.
- Navigate to Google Maps (https://www.google.com/maps).
- Open Mozilla Firefox.
- Click on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner and select New Private Window.
- Navigate to Google Maps (https://www.google.com/maps).
7. Disable Extensions Temporarily
For Chrome:- Open Google Chrome.
- Click on the three dots in the top right corner and go to More tools > Extensions.
- Toggle off all extensions to disable them.
- Reload Google Maps to see if performance improves.
- Open Mozilla Firefox.
- Click on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner and go to Add-ons and Themes.
- Disable all extensions by toggling them off.
- Reload Google Maps.
8. Use the Lite Version of Google Maps
- Open your browser and go to Google Maps (https://www.google.com/maps).
- In the URL, add ?force=canvas at the end so it looks like https://www.google.com/maps?force=canvas.
- Press Enter.
