Manage Startup Programs

Manage Startup Programs

In time, almost every system running Windows 10 will have several applications loading on startup. Most of these applications will be things that you've intentionally installed and don't slow the system down. However, there will also be some applications that run in the background that either aren't needed or slow the start-up process down enough that it makes sense to disable them.

Some previous versions of Windows used "msconfig" to manage the startup list, but Windows 10 uses a much improved Task Manager to do this. Not only can you enable or disable applications loading once Windows starts, but you can see the impact that this will have per app.

To begin, press CTRL + Shift + Esc to load the task manager, or alternatively right click the taskbar and select "Task Manager":

Once loaded, you may need to click the More Details button a the bottom of the Window:

Now click the Start-up tab at the top and you'll see a list of all of the start-up applications you have:

If you see something in the list that you'd like to enable or disable, just select the application from the list and then click the corresponding button at the bottom of the window. In the example above, it's a disable button. If you change your mind, just come back to this tool and enable it again.
