How to Download Windows 10 ISO

There's a good chance that at some point you'll want to download an installation version of Windows 10 to DVD or USB (or have an ISO file handy), so that you're covered in case of a fresh install. Perhaps you'd like to use it to upgrade some Windows 7/8.1 computers. Either way, Microsoft make it extremely easy to create your own installation media.

To begin, visit the following URL on the Microsoft website:

https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10

From here you can create a installation boot DVD/USB, or download the ISO file for later use. Click the Download Tool Now button to begin:

When prompted, save the MediaCreationTool.exe download somewhere and then run it. Once run, click accept to confirm the license terms:

You may have to wait a few moments, but you should then be presented with a screen asking you to if you'd like to upgrade your PC or create installation media. Select the Create Installation Media for Another PC option, then click next:

You'll be presented with some regional options to select the Language, Edition and Architecture of the Windows 10 download (or choose the recommended settings). When you have made your choice, click Next:

Now you can choose if you'd like to make a bootable USB installation, or download an ISO file (which you can burn to make an installation DVD). Make your selection and click next:

If you chose to download an ISO file, you'll be prompted to save it somewhere. Then, Windows 10 will download in the background - this may take a while as the installation files are several GB in size.

Once ready, you'll then be prompted to insert a USB drive or blank DVD (depending on your previous choice) to create your installation media. If you'd prefer, you can just keep the ISO file to use as you'd like (perhaps for a virtual machine installation).
